{Mirabelle Creations Party} & {New to the Shop} -- Mira's 9th Groovy Disco Party

Friday, February 24, 2012

My daughter recently celebrated her 9th birthday with a groovy disco party.  In the fall, Mira told me that she wanted to have a 70s tie dye party for her birthday.  When she initially mentioned the idea to me, I wasn't too crazy about it; most of the 70s party decor I found was a little too psychedelic looking for me.  We decided to look for a way to modernize the typical 70s party.  Starting with the chevron pattern and disco balls, we created a more updated look for a 70s inspired party.

Please scroll down for all the yummy pictures and for all the party details.  The party printable collection is now available in my Etsy Shop!

Food:  We started the evening with pizza for all of the girls.  After they ate dinner and made crafts, they enjoyed the Dessert Table.  My favorite part of the Dessert Table was the chevron patterned Vanilla Buttercream Cake.  The chevron pattern was created using Sixlets candies and was inspired by a striped cake I found on one of my favorite baking sites, Sprinkle Bakes.  The Sugar Cookies were made using edible images that matched the party printables.  The Oreo Truffle Cake Pops were covered in edible silver sprinkles, to resemble disco balls.  I also made the Lemon Lime Marshmallows and Mini Donuts, which were both big hits with the girls.

Decorations:  The color palette for the party printables was aquamarine, seafoam, chartreuse and slate.  The chevron pattern was repeated in the printables, on the chipboard "M" on the drink table and on the candy favor bags.  Mira and I used Modge Podge and glitter to cover wooden balls to make them look like mini disco balls.  We strung the balls on each of the bottles used to serve drinks. Disco ball ornaments, which I purchased at Christmas, were placed in antique compote bowls on both the dessert and drink tables. The mini disco balls were also hung from ribbon over the dessert table.  Mira also loved the custom headband, based on the invitation, made for her by One Little Band.

Activities:  The girls first made tie dye t-shirts, using the party color palette.  In another nod to the 70s, they painted pet rocks.  In the days after the party, we delivered their pet rocks and tie dyed t-shirts.  After they completed their crafts, the girls had a disco dance party.  It was so much fun to watch all of them dance their little hearts out!

Thank you, Nina! Found the rocks in a creek by our house :) The girls painted them and I made the boxes out of cucpake boxes. A fun, very inexpensive favor!
